AFCON 2023 Qualifiers: 3 Players That Flopped Against Sierra LeoneNews Hub Creator

The Super Eagles kicked off their campaign ahead of next years AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire as they came out 2-1 winners over the Leone stars at the Abuja stadium.

The visitors looked the better side at the early stage of the game and it paid off as they scored the first goal in the 11th minute. The super eagles responded well five minutes later through Alex Iwobi. Napoli’s talisman, Victor Osimhen scored the winning goal in the 41st minute and that was all from the game.

Despite the win, some players were not impressive in the game and the coach needs to take note-

One player who had a terrible game was Villarreal winger, Samuel Chukwueze. He missed a clear chance that would have given Jose Peseiro’s men the third goal. He also lost the ball on several occasions that would have resulted in the away side leveling the match.

Second player who was awful was William Troost-Ekong. His lack of playing time at club level was visible as he was unable to stop the cross which resulted to Sierra Leone’s goal. He was later injured at was taken off.

Sadiq Umar: The UD Almeria man was not able to bring his form from club to country as he was not in the game. His performance saw him substituted at half time.

The Super Eagles will now play their second game on Monday when they play São Tomé and Principe in Morocco.
