England's First Choice RB: Reece James Reveals Why Arnold Doesn't Defend Like He Does

It is literally impossible to argue that the current England national team is blessed with some of the best right fullbacks in world football.

Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, Chelsea's Reece James, Man City's Kyle Walker and Newcastle's Kieran Trippier are all world class right fullbacks that Gareth Southgate has the luxury of playing.

In the match against Italy a couple of hours ago, it was Reece James who started in that position and he was arguably England's best player in the pitch in the 0-0 draw.

After the match, the Chelsea defender spoke to the media and shared an insight into one of the most talked about debate of the current England right back situation.

Many fans believe that Trent Alexander-Arnold should not be ahead of James in the order. They say that as good as he is for Liverpool he cannot defend.

Responding to that, Reece James had this to say;

"Trent can’t defend? I gave away a penalty against Hungary so we are both still learning our trade.

"Liverpool have 95% of the ball and he defends less than I have to. People have a lot of stuff to say and don’t really know the game. Trent is a great player."

He revealed that Arnold, who is a great player does not defend like he does because Liverpool have most of the ball, unlike Chelsea. At Chelsea he has to defend a lot, which is something Trent doesn't have to do a lot of the time.

On being the first choice right back for England, the defender had this to say:

"I’ll try everything I can. Only my performances will be able to prove what I can bring. In these games and building into next season I’ll hopefully be able to show that I’m ready to play every game."

This response from James shows class and maturity. Despite the fact that he wants to be England's first choice RB, he acknowledges that Trent Alexander-Arnold is a great player and did a good job defending the Liverpool man from the critics.
