Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson could move to Nottingham Forest on loan with an option to buy, as Steve Cooper’s side step up their search for a replacement for Brice Samba.
The Athletic revealed earlier this month that Nottingham Forest’s current number one, Samba, had informed the club he will not be signing a new contract and intends to leave.
It is understood Samba is interested in a move back to France with Lens, having helped Forest secure their long-awaited return to the Premier League.
Forest have since been looking at alternatives with Henderson, 25, an option, initially on loan.
Henderson may be made available to leave Old Trafford on loan this season. Forest must decide how best to use their available loan spots upon their Premier League return, however.
Premier League clubs may not register more than two domestic players on loan at any one time.
Henderson only made three appearances for United last season and did not feature in the Premier League at all, with David de Gea preferred by both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
Henderson previously spent two campaigns on loan at Sheffield United, with one of those in the Premier League, and was handed a full England cap by Gareth Southgate in 2019.
Samba’s future will naturally be key in any negotiations for Henderson, as Forest prepare for their first season back in the top flight since 1998-99.
Steve Cooper’s side are yet to sign a player this summer.
